New aircraft tech a mystery to the US Military too, says anonymous source

Recently, our own Geoff B’stard witnessed some strange military aircraft overhead, and wrote here about his observations and possible implications.  When contacted, the UK offered a shady response that raised more questions than it answered – and now we’ve got another side to this story that makes it very interesting indeed.

An anonymous source within the United States Government had this to say:

“… we have no idea bout [sic] the technology, but we too want our hands on it and would like to study it further in detail, and would work with the UK to further study such things.”

We have military-style jets, that appear to be fighter jets, operating in United States airspace, apparently without the consent or even knowledge of the United States military?  This is either a gross dereliction of duty on the part of our nation’s sworn protectors, or a strangely-worded false denial.  But if it were a denial, why the stated desire to know more about it?  A better denial would be to suggest the reporter was mistaken, or that the aircraft was indeed a US asset but that they were not at liberty to discuss it.  Instead, the source seemed eager to learn more about the aircraft, which is a chilling thought indeed.

As we all well know, the US military outsources the vast majority of weapons and airframe development to defense contractors.  Although these contractors are required to pass extensive background checks to ensure not only their loyalty to the United States and its interests, but also their own internal security and accountability processes, it is not impossible to believe that these companies have decided that their own interests may be better served by developing materiel to protecting not the assets of the US or any other nation – but instead, their own assets.

Are we on the verge of the rise of a stateless army, a Militaires Sans Frontières? And if so, what technological advancements can we expect to see from a defense developer not constrained by red tape?

Stay tuned.
